In my last blog, I mentioned the fact that Jesus did not want his disciples erupting in jubilation because the demons were subject to them in his name (Luke 10:20). Rather, he wanted them to be elated about the certainty their names are recorded in heaven.

It must be exhilarating to realise, you no longer have to wonder about life after death. Once you embrace the Messiah, you have peace with your Creator, your Heavenly Father, in the here and now (Romans 5:1). You no longer have to wait until your deathbed to make it right.

Okay, it seems as if I am getting a little bit distracted. So let’s stay on track.

The disciples in Luke chapter 10 received authority from the Master to deal with demonic hosts. They believed strongly in the authority bequeathed to them. They got results. They took him at his word. They were not scared to confront the rebel prince and his minions. Jesus and the prince of darkness were not in the same league.

This raises a few questions. Scripture says that we are delivered from the power, control and dominion of darkness (Colossians 1:13). Do we really believe that Scripture? Is His sacrifice sufficient for us? Or do we need to keep running from meeting to meeting looking for deliverance? Do we need to keep running after one special man of God after another?

Don’t get me wrong. People need support from time to time. Spiritual battles can be difficult to grapple with. But one thing we must always remember, our liberty is founded in the finished work of Christ. If you are a believer, the enemy has no legal right to mess with your head or your life.

Fully embrace the freedom you have in Christ. Stand against the enemy.

Have a great weekend 🙂
